Play Aampa Online - The Nostalgic Tamarind Seed Board Game
Welcome to the ultimate online version of Aampa, a highly nostalgic and traditional Indian board game played with tamarind seeds. Originating in rural India, Aampa (often compared to Ashta Chamma or Chaupar) is a thrilling multiplayer game of strategy, luck, and capturing opponents' pieces (gotis).
What is Aampa?
Aampa is an ancient Indian dice game where players roll tamarind seeds to determine their moves. Unlike modern dice, tamarind seeds are split in half, featuring a dark side and a light (white) side. The number of white sides facing up dictates your score. This digital recreation brings the authentic rural experience to your browser with a gorgeous, rustic parchment aesthetic and a nostalgic Ghibli-inspired backdrop.
How to Play the Aampa Game
The rules of Aampa are simple yet deeply strategic:
- The Setup: Up to four players can play, positioned at the Top, Right, Bottom, and Left corners of the board. Each player controls 4 pieces (gotis).
- Scoring and Tamarind Seeds: Players roll 4 tamarind seeds. The score is calculated as follows: 1 white side = 1 step, 2 white sides = 2 steps, 3 white sides = 3 steps, 0 white sides (all dark) = 4 steps, and 4 white sides = 8 steps.
- Extra Chances: Rolling a 4 or an 8 grants the player an immediate extra turn! Capturing an opponent's piece also rewards you with an extra chance.
- Winning the Game: Navigate all your gotis around the cross-shaped grid and into the center safe zone (the GHAR). The first player to bring all 4 gotis home wins!
